An Evaluation of Your People's Least Effective Environment and Most Effective Environment

EXPRESSIVES (EX) – People oriented, more assertive

Their most effective environment:

They work best in a friendly, collaborative work climate that allows them many opportunities to use their creative talents and social skills to build good personal relationships that will benefit the company.

Their least effective environment:

They cannot work in isolation. They need to be with supportive people who respond to their fun-loving, colorful nature and will make time for small talk. To the Expressive an “all business and no play” climate will seem cold and sterile and he/she may quickly become discouraged and lose motivation.

AMIABLES (AM) – High emotion expression, slow pace

Their most effective environment:

They seek secure working conditions and social surroundings. Their family is very important to them, so "family friendly" environments with long-term employment potential with a company that cares for its people is where they feel at home.

Their least effective environment:

They cannot succeed in harsh and critical climates where the human element is a minimal component. Nor will they do well in an organization that capitalizes on improvisation and quick response, where there is little tolerance for those who can’t shoot from the hip or get their feelings hurt easily.

DRIVERS (DR) – Task oriented, fast pace

Their most effective environment:

They enjoy variety and an environment that is constantly changing. They want surroundings where they have authority, increasing responsibilities, and lucrative financial incentives. They need resources that support their practical, task-oriented, and risk-taking orientation.

Their least effective environment:

They have difficulty in an environment where it is decision-making by consensus. They need autonomy, dislike close supervision and have limited tolerance and patience with colleagues and processes that don’t meet their criterion.

ANALYTICALS (AN) – Low emotional expression, less assertive

Their most effective environment:

They seek a predictable environment with set rules and procedures. It is important that they know exactly what is expected of them. Settings that give them freedom to work alone with limited interruptions and allow time for concentration and preparation are important.

Their least effective environment:

An organization that is in constant change, with an "adapt as you go attitude" will be stressful for the Analytical style as will working with a group of playful colleagues who thrive on small talk and lots of personal interaction.
